DIY: Pom Poms

Pom poms. They are fluffy, often adorable, and easy to make! Before we get into making it, let’s begin with why you should make them. There are so many uses for these pom poms, but one of my favourites is the pom pom bookmark. It is so cute!

But the big question is, how in the world do you make the pom poms?! Actually, it isn’t that hard. I’ve been making them since I was really little and all you need is a bit of cardboard and some wool or string. You need to cut two circles out of the cardboard, around about how big you want your pom pom to be. They need to look something like this:

Next, you need to make sure you have a piece of string 45 cm long. Place it between the two cardboard discs so both ends poke out the bottom and the middle of the string loops around the hole.

Then, use the remaining string by winding it through the hole and round the back of the two pieces of cardboard. So it looks like this:

Continue like this until the entire disc is covered and then take the ends of the 45cm string you began with. Pull the ends into the hole in the middle of the disc and tied knot (just one. No double knots!) Then get out a pair of scissors and cut around the edge of the circle (between the two discs so you cut the yarn. When you are finished knot the 45cm string again. Then pull the pom pom off the two cardboard discs and voila! You have a pom pom. Now, all you need to do is find a book that needs a book mark and place the loose ends between the pages!

Happy crafting!
